The Bridegroom
John 3:27-30 John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.’ The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.”
Revelation 21:2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Do you have a wedding to attend this summer? We are entering into “wedding season” when most weddings are held during the warmer months.
In ancient days and even in some cultures today, after a couple has been engaged to be married, the bride waits eagerly not knowing exactly when her groom will come back to get her. She waits while he prepares. Now I am a man, a groom, so it is hard for me to wrap my heart around this truth of our faith. Namely that Jesus is the groom, and we His people are His bride. Yet what I do know is the excitement of that day.
I still remember to this day a feeling like a hot flash about ten minutes before our ceremony began. I still remember and have video to prove it that my lip was quivering from the time I saw Jenni at the end of the aisle until I said “I do.”
When I think about THE day when I see Jesus face to face, I do not know if I will fall on my knees, if I will smile from ear to ear, if He will run to me with arms wide open like I just hit a game winning shot in basketball or greet me as I run home to Him as if I just hit a game winning home run. What I do know is that I am looking forward to THAT day, when I see Jesus face to face. What a day it will be when we all see Jesus face to face for the greatest celebration that will last for eternity!
