Mic Drop
Every once in a while someone says something or writes something that I hear or read that causes me to stop and think, to reflect. Let me be so bold to say that everything recorded for us about the person of Jesus in the four Gospels are worthy of reflecting on. Today I’m reflecting on what Jesus said recorded for us in the Gospel of Luke.
Luke 4:17-21 “And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
No doubt about it: Jesus captured everyone’s attention by His claim, their eyes were fixed on Him. He was claiming that well over 4,000 years of history was His story. Everyone knew what He was claiming as He reflected on words from the prophet Isaiah. The question would be: really? Is He really the One and Only? Is He really the One that will fill in the void that sin had created? Is He really the One that will make everything whole again and right?
Jesus no doubt knew what He was saying that day as He quite literally dropped the mic. He knows what He is still claiming today. Let’s refocus by reflecting on Jesus. Let’s fix our eyes on Him.
If you are looking for hope, for comfort, for courage, for purpose, for strength, for truth, for love, or for forgiveness: fix your gaze on the good news of Heaven and Earth. Jesus.
