Reflecting on Missions: Holy Saturday
April 8, 2012 was Easter Sunday, I was on a short term mission trip in Haiti. We were celebrating the Resurrection and sharing the Love of Jesus with some of the many people who needed to hear the Gospel and Good News of Hope, Mercy and Grace through Christ desperately.
This trip was just one of the many small first steps God had planned in my Faith Journey. This VBS mission trip opened my eyes to International Mission work. It broke my heart wide open and created a passion for Missions and organizations dedicated to serving others near and abroad.
Every year on this day (Holy Saturday), we rest in the silence… remembering the Sabbath, the time between the death and resurrection of Christ. The sacrifice made for our us – the forgiveness of our sins.
I also take the time to reflect on the time I spent in Haiti those years ago. I re-read the blog I kept to update my family… I take specific time to pray over those I met, the places I visited and the struggles endured in Haiti and throughout the world. Missions has taken a permanent residence in my heart through the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, international mission connections at Trinity and other organizations doing work throughout the world.
